Zita, I am so sorry you had to go through this. But please know, he was not abusive because you allowed him to be. Do not blame yourself. He chose to be that way, and yes, maybe his mental illness played a part but you were trying to help. Your love was a beautiful thing and his pain and his anger toward the world made him bitter, not you.
