It isn’t about the money

It’s more than gold

See that light? … Cheridan Smith photography

One day my kids will ask me about you. They’ll ask about the first man I loved.

I’ll tell them about you.

About the man who carved his name

inside my chest and left

a beautifully flawed tattoo.

I’ll tell them how I never knew a love like you could consume my entire soul

and then set it on fire.

But then, then I’ll tell them you were lost,

and confused, and to you I was just a stepping stone to your final destination.

I was a light bulb that eventually burned out.

I’ll tell them you strayed away and never came back.

That I thought I would be forever homeless because you were my home

but then you burned down.

Then, then I’ll tell them that was what I believed until I met someone whose soul I could set on fire too.

And that true love is love that will not only fill up your soul,

but will light up your universe.
